Nestled high in the emerald hills of Kodaikanal, where the mist weaves its magic and the air whispers tales of tranquility, lies a sanctuary of opulence and heritage—The Tamara Kodai. From the moment I stepped foot into this ethereal retreat, I knew I was about to embark on a journey unlike any other.

As I entered the grand gates and ascended up the path to the lobby, I caught a glimpse of the cozy and welcoming interiors. Perched majestically over 2,000 meters above sea level, The Tamara Kodai stands as a testament to time, its origins dating back to the 1840s when it first emerged as the Baynes Bungalow, a refuge for the elite of British colonial society.

Stepping through its storied halls, I couldn't help but be enveloped by a sense of nostalgia, as if the very walls whispered secrets of a bygone era. Originally owned by the esteemed British District Judge, Mr. Baynes, this architectural gem was later transformed into La Providence by Father Louis Cyr, serving as a haven for weary priests seeking solace amidst the hills.

But it was not merely the history that captivated me; it was the promise of unparalleled luxury that awaited within the confines of The Tamara Kodai. My abode for the duration of my stay—the Luxury Suite—beckoned with its colonial elegance and modern comforts. From the plush furnishings to the panoramic balcony offering vistas of the undulating hills, every detail spoke of indulgence and tranquility. Awakening each morning to misty mountains, I found solace in the serenity that enveloped me. With tea and coffee making facilities at my disposal, I savored leisurely mornings on the balcony, watching as the sun cast its golden glow upon the landscape below.

Throughout the day, The Tamara Kodai offered a plethora of experiences to delight the senses. Whether it was testing my aim at archery, pedaling through scenic trails on a mountain bike, or plunging into the crystalline waters of the temperature-controlled pool, there was no shortage of adventure to be found. For moments of quiet contemplation, I sought refuge in the hallowed halls of the in-house library, where rows of books stood as silent sentinels, guarding the stories within.  The restaurants offer a variety of cuisines from simple and fresh salads to local Tamil cuisine.

As the day drew to a close, I found myself drawn to the warmth of the bonfire, where fellow travelers shared tales of their own adventures amidst the hills. With a game of pool or a leisurely stroll through the verdant gardens, each moment was infused with a sense of contentment.

As I bid farewell to The Tamara Kodai, I carried with me memories that would linger long after my departure—a testament to the timeless allure of this luxurious retreat in the hills of Kodaikanal.
