A home away from home at The Almond Tree, Jodhpur

Stepping into The Almond Tree felt like uncovering a hidden gem tucked away at the foothills of the magnificent Umaid Bhawan Palace. This eight-bedroom house, located in one of Jodhpur’s most tranquil neighborhoods, seamlessly marries modern indulgence with timeless Rajasthani elegance.

From the moment I arrived, the serene atmosphere was intoxicating. The property’s proximity to the Maharaja's iconic palace felt like an invitation into the royal neighborhood. Morning walks through beautifully landscaped parks and quiet paths led to the discovery of a functional bawri (stepwell), a subtle nod to Rajasthan’s historic water architecture, located just steps away.

The highlight of my stay was the Almond Terrace, a rooftop garden with sweeping views of the Umaid Bhawan. I spent my mornings here, indulging in yoga sessions as the first rays of sunlight kissed the palace domes, and evenings sipping tea under the starlit desert sky.

I stayed in the Marigold suite that featured handcrafted headboards that were artworks in themselves, a separate lounge area for unwinding, and a bathroom that rivaled any five-star spa. Whether you’re staying in the Superior or Deluxe rooms, the attention to detail—antique artifacts, plush furnishings, and thoughtful amenities—creates a cocoon of comfort.

The property’s all-weather pool was another delight. It offered respite during the heat of the day and became a warm retreat during Jodhpur’s crisp winter evenings, thanks to temperature control.

The inhouse restaurant offers a variety of comfort dishes and spectacular home cooked Rajasthani fare including dal bati churma, lal maas, ker sangri and seasonal dishes that are hard to find anywhere else in the city.

Logistically, The Almond Tree is a dream for travelers, being just minutes away from the airport, railway station, and the bustling old city. Yet, it feels like a peaceful sanctuary, away from the city's hum.

Staying at The Almond Tree wasn’t just about the comfort and luxury; it was about experiencing Jodhpur from a vantage point few are privileged to enjoy. The founders Megha and Chetan make you feel right at home. We took a rickshaw ride through the old city exploring some of its unique street foods.

If you’re seeking a blend of royal charm, impeccable hospitality, and serene surroundings, this is where your Jodhpur journey should begin.
